New STM Group canning line with a capacity of 17,000 cph for European Drinks in Romania.
In the picturesque town of Rieni, located between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea in western Romania, STM Group has launched a new, complete canning line with a capacity of 17,000 cans per hour (cph).
The project was carried out for our long-standing partner, European Drinks, one of the largest beverage producers in the region, working with European industry leaders.
🤝 Long-term cooperation, new challenges
Our cooperation with European Drinks began several years ago with the delivery of a linear labelling machine for OPP labels – a device that is still working successfully today. The trust placed in us by the customer resulted in an order for a complete STM Group canning line in 2024.
For us, it was not only an honour, but also proof that STM Group’s solutions meet the highest industry standards and the expectations of the most demanding manufacturers.
Scope of the project
The new line was designed and delivered on a turnkey basis – from an automatic depalletiser to robotic palletising with a KUKA robot.
The system handles three can capacities: 250 ml, 330 ml and 500 ml, in three can body sizes: slim, sleek and standard, with two types of lids – 200 and 202.

🔹System enabling filling at higher temperatures without quality loss
After the filling process, the cans are sent to the STM pasteuriser. The product then passes through an X-ray fill level inspector, air knives and a double secondary packaging system, which allows for the creation of various multipack configurations (2×2, 3×2, 4×2) and collective packaging (tray + film).
Depending on customer requirements, the line also allows the multipack stage to be bypassed and direct packaging in a 6×4 tray plus film configuration.
Thanks to STM Group’s comprehensive approach, European Drinks has gained a modern, efficient and flexible canning line that meets the growing demands of the aluminium can beverage market.
The whole process is completed by robotic palletising: automatic pallet and spacer storage,layer stacking and automatic wrapping machine preparing finished pallets for dispatch.
The project in Rieni is further proof that STM Group is not only a machine manufacturer, but also a technology partner that supports its customers’ development from concept to finished installation.
